Miami Dutch Lions FC (2-0-0) wrote some history on Saturday evening at Ted Hendrick Stadium with a 10-0 win vs Storm FC (0-4-0) in their inaugural home game.
After winning the opening game on the road on Wednesday vs Central Florida Panthers SC (2-2-0), the Lions were anxious to pick up another three points before facing Conference leaders Naples United FC on June 6. The Lions took control of the game from the start and took the lead in the 8th minute when Philip Spickenbaum scored the opening goal (again) with a perfectly placed ball in the right corner. Storm FC came close to the equalizer when a free kick hit the post. In the 22nd minute, Lars van der Vlugt scored 2-0, followed by a goal of Presten Manthey in the 25th minute to give the Lions a comfortable lead. Manthey scored his second of the night in the 31st minute: 4-0. Same as Wednesday, Phillip Spickenbaum had another great goal from distance getting the ball on the right, curving it in the top right corner for a 5-0 lead in the 36thminute. Thijs Middeldorp added a sixth goal in the 42nd minute providing the Lions a comfortable lead going into halftime.
Middeldorp scored his 2nd of the evening in the 51st minute, followed by a nice goal by Felipe Alvarez (8-0) in the 60th minute. Three minutes later Riki Soto scored his first of the season: 9-0. The 10th goal was scored in the 77th minute. The score is the biggest win in Dutch Lions FC history (since 2010).
“Today we checked off all the boxes that we set for ourselves before the game” said Head Coach Robert Stoutenburg. “We were looking to go into this game to dominate possession and create opportunities in and around the box, specifically coming in from wide areas and play balls into the bpx with people making runs. We did that very effective today, I felt like every time we took a shot we were able to put one in the net. We did get lucky today with the opponent getting a red card which changed the dynamics of the game, but the boys did really well in handling the situation staying composed and continue to play ”our” game. Combined with the possession we had some stand-up performances again today. Tonight we will enjoy and celebrate the victory, but starting tomorrow all focus is next weeks game”.
The team is back in action on June 6 at 6pm at Paradise Coast Sports Complex vs Naples United FC (3-0-0).
