Max Busch, Angelo Leendertse and Riki Soto score in weather delayed game
Miami Dutch Lions FC (5-0-1) continued their impressive run this evening after another weather delayed game. After waiting more than two hours Miami Dutch Lions FC went head to head with Boca Raton FC (2-3-1) for a much needed 3 points with sites on the playoffs. After 1-1 at halftime the Lions were able to secure a 3-1 win keeping them in first place.
The Lions struck first after a penalty was award for a foul inside the box on Max Busch. Max stepped up for the penalty and slotted it passed the goalkeeper into the side netting. The first half was a very fast paced game with the Lions dictating play and keeping the majority of the possession. Boca had a few chances in front goal, but were unable to put anything past Peter Wenzel. As the half closed down Boca Raton started getting more into the game and were able to exploit the back line to set up a goal 3 minutes before the whistle.
In the second half Boca Raton tried to come out and press, but the Lions were able to break through in the midfield and through a piece of combination play the Boca defense opened up for Angelo Leendertse to get inside the 18 and put one passed the Boca Raton goalkeeper. The introduction of Riki Soto caused problems for Boca Raton and allowed Soto to get behind the defensive line and score the decisive goal to seal the win for Miami Dutch Lions FC.
“Today was a really good day of soccer for us” explained Head Coach Rob Stoutenburg. “We came in knowing that we needed to get three points and the boys really stepped up! We kept possession and utilized the spaces that we created. We did an excellent job in transition and made it really tough for our opponent to really get into the game. As a coach when you see things in the game that we worked on in practice you are proud of team and the performance. We are looking to take this win and carry it forward to a very important match against Naples United FC on Wednesday.”
